Hello
I am having problems with my computer. When i turn my computer on it gives me the following error: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause of it and it also says that i will have to reinstall my windows xp (but the problem is that i dont have the disk and my computer does not have a floppy drive and i dont want to lose all my games saved on the hard drive). The problem is that the /ntldr file is missing and statues.. 0×000000f. This is what happend last night i had to go somewhere and fast so i had to turn off my computer and didnt have the time to shut it down so i just turned it off by pressing the turn off button(note that i didnt unplug it). Any solutions?
Thanks
Josephine

The computer is trying to boot from a non-bootable source. It didn’t save its settings the last time when you just turned it off without letting it shut down. You need the XP CD, and without that, I don’t know what to tell you. You can read the fixes proposed by this link, though, and maybe come up with something.
Take a look at this. You may just have a bad boot record, which should be able to be repaired without reformatting or harming your data.
To use this, burn it to a disc and turn your computer on with it in the drive. The MBR tools are what you would use for this problem.
If you do come across an XP disc you can use, you can use the recovery console on it and use the fixmbr command. Google fixmbr for more information.
